Eine Woche nach der next08 ist es Zeit für einen Blick auf das Feedback aus über 1.000 Blogposts, Twitter und der next08 Live Community auf six groups.
One week after the next08 it is time for a closer look on the feedback in more than 1.000 blog posts, on Twitter and by the next08 live community on six groups. I will do it in Loic le Meur style.
We are already thinking about the next09 and taking the first steps towards next year's edition of the next conference. Please don't hesitate to send us feedback per mail, comment on this post or in your blog. We are also preparing a short survey for participants.
"Whatever has been attained is attainable", says the fortune cookie I got yesterday after lunch. Most of you liked the next08 very much - many thanks for that! The next next conference should be even better. Thanks to all sponsors, partners, speakers, team and participants for the success this year's edition clearly was.
What a fantastic couple of days I have been experiencing here in Hamburg, Germany, attending an event worth while remembering for quite some time to come: Next08. Yes, indeed, so much so that today is the day after and I am still buzzing!; not only because of the superb quality of the speakers and presentations, but also because of the overall event itself, including the organisation and overall setup. And what to say about the massive social networking activities going on throughout? Just brilliant!
Luis Suarez, IBM
My head is spinning, but I had a great time at the wonderful Next08 conference in Hamburg (despite my early departure) and the more collegial and fun Going Solo in Lausanne.

There are about 1,200 people here, up from around 700 last year which just goes to show how much the industry is changing here in Europe. As one delegate described it to me, it's one of the few - if perhaps the only event - to bring Geeks and Investors together in Germany.
Mike Butcher, TechCrunch
So I'm am the Next08 conference watching some start-ups that give a five minute elevator pitch. I can't understand them all, as not all the German entrepreneurs here are as smart as Amazee, Jupidi, Mikestar and Toksta, since they present in German. I'm sure this is more comfortable for them as it's their native language, and of course, most of the services are focused on the German market, but something doesn't feel right here.
Ernst-Jan Pfauth, The Next Web
What we succeeded
- Communities: start-ups, VCs, entrepreneurs, agencies, companies, press, bloggers
- More than 1.300 participants
- More than 70 journalists and good press coverage
- The one and only conference in Europe which brings the internet community together with big corporations and leading brands - the next conference isn't for geeks only, but for a much broader community (media, internet, advertising and IT industries).
- Great food & beverages
- Improved video quality, most videos already online (compare this to other conferences) - many thanks to exxplain!
- Networking space
- onlineKapitäne meet-up brought even more people from the Hamburg new media scene together.
- International DJs and VJs powered by MySpace
- Sponsoring and support by IBM, Google, MySpace, CoreMedia, Hamburg@work, SAS, QlikView, GoViral, projektwerk, adconion, Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions, Commerzbank Hamburg Medien, Plazes, KongressMedia, Venture Lounge, Skoda Stiekun LimousineServices, Facebook Delevoper Garage Hamburg, onlineKapitäne, six groups, cellity, exxplain, Häagen-Dasz, Tchibo, Bionade, PAGE, Horizont, Mister Wong, Internet World Business, deutsche startups, Internethandel
- Sold many more tickets (almost sold out!) and found more sponsors than last year
- Four parallel tracks - more content in one day than other conferences have in two days!
- Elevator Pitch with ten start-ups and a dedicated track with another 25 start-ups presenting
- Several launches and other news announced at the next08
- Best program ever at a next conference (still room for improvement though)
- Almost perfect on schedule, nearly without delays
- Open door policy - just leave the room in case you get bored
- Great overall organisation (kudos to the next08 team!)
- Relaxed atmosphere and networking opportunities
- Live community by six groups on the second screen
- Ticketing with amiando
- Hundreds of pictures taken by our official photographers (feel free to use them as you like) and by the participants
What we could have done better
- Higher investment in the wifi - we had much more bandwidth and access points than last year, but demand is increasing faster than supply.
- Larger location would have allowed more people to participate.
- Printable timetable - m.next08.com existed but nobody knew.
- Video livestream
- Live community on a second screen in all four rooms, not just in the main room
- Better integration of the several communication channels (email, web, Twitter, Facebook, six groups etc.)
- More, if not all content in english (yes, it's not easy for Germans and, given the predominantly german audience, it seems unnecessary, but read this, please)
- More speakers from other european countries and the US
- More key voices from the international community (i.e. Silicon Valley and Europe)
We're working on it. See you next year in Hamburg!
